How is facelift surgery performed?

A facelift is usually carried out under general anaesthetic. Although, the types of facelifts vary, generally the surgeon will make incisions above the hairline, that extend down, underneath and behind the ear. If the surgery also includes work on the jawline, then cuts under the chin will be made.

Any surplus skin will be removed, while the remaining skin will then be pulled back and upwards to stitch it into its new position, however there may be the need to sometimes redistribute facial fat and tissue before this can be completed. The procedure normally takes two to three hours, although in most cases, patients need to stay in hospital overnight to aid the recovery process.

How much does a facelift cost?

In the UK, the price of a facelift depends on the surgical provider, however, this kind of surgery can cost up to £10,000. It is also worth considering the additional cost of consultations or follow up care that might be needed after the operation, making it even more important to be sure about your motivation for going ahead with facelift surgery.

What is involved in a neck lift?

A neck lift is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat around the jawline. Results of this surgery are long lasting, providing a more defined and youthful looking neck.

During a neck lift procedure, the surgeon will make an incision behind each ear and under the chin. Specialised equipment will then be used to get rid of any excess fat from the jawline and underneath the chin. If this skin is too resilient, then liposuction can help to give a more defined neck.

How long does it take to recover from a neck lift?

Once a neck lift procedure is finished, you are likely to have some swelling and bruising. To aid recovery, it is sometimes necessary to wear a compression garment, while keeping your head elevated and straight.

In total, it might take up to several months for the swelling and bruising to disappear. Throughout this period, you should protect yourself from the sun and avoid wearing clothes that need to be pulled over your head.

How much does a neck lift cost?

Like a face lift, the price of neck lifts will vary, depending on the provider and expertise of the treatment. This fee is likely to be in the region of £4,000 to £10,000.

How is a chin lift done?

There is no specific double chin surgery, however, there are a combination of procedures that can remove excess fat and tighten neck skin to create a firmer, more defined chin.

If you are interested in removing excess fat around the chin area, your best bet is to consult a surgeon about the ideal option for you.

The common procedures that correct a double chin, includes chin liposuction, where excess fat from under the chin will be removed. A cosmetic surgeon will also be able to perform a submentoplasty, which combines chin liposuction and smaller incisions under the chin to tighten the muscles.

A Neck lift can also be employed to remove excess skin or to tighten the neck skin muscles to give the face a more contoured appearance. While, these three procedures can all eradicate the appearance of a double chin, you might not be a good candidate for liposuction or a submentoplasty, if your skin has a loose or saggy appearance. In this case, your surgeon will usually recommend a neck lift.
